summary of activities

During the Week of Global Education the pupils of our school took part in the following activities

1. 2.,3.,4. The 2nd , 3rd and 4th classes of the Primary School ( a part of the United School) visited the municipal library.
2. The study group Centráčik,
in which pupils collect information, sort it and put it together in a magazine entitled Centráčik
3. The Holocaust and Racial Violence Victims Day

"Although everyone of us is different, we are still equal!"

This was one of the mottos that the pupils of Spojená škola used to remind themselves of the above mentioned day. The words 'Let all the children of the world..' were shining from the colourful drawings on the city's pedestrian zone. All the classes expressed their ideas about the world which would be without any violence but which where friendship among children of various skin colour would be instead.

At the very beginning of the day the pupils gathered at school for a few lessons where they gained new information about the importance of the toleration and equality. They also expressed their views on relationships with people who are different to them in some way. The pupils attending the eight and ninth grades later watched a film picturing the Jewish deportation to concentration camps.

4. The Europe of today and tomorrow

The pupils and the teachers of Spojená škola prepared ' a mini-conference' entitled 'The Europe of today and tomorrow' where the opinions about the present state of affairs in Europe, in the European Union as well as the question of cooperation among the member countries were presented. The pupils described what Europe should look like according to them and they also attempted to figure out what particular steps should be done to improve the living conditions within it. Moreover, they stressed the fact that although we are different, there is still a way of understanding each other. The future of Europe should be based on tolerance, solidarity and equality. Everybody should be given the same opportunities where one could show one's abilities. At the end of the mini-conference a couple of poems were recited by students who thus communicated the thoughts of peace in an artistic way.

5. The Milk Day

Everybody knows that milk contains calcium which is an important element for the healthy development of a human body. Few of us, however, notice that 28 September is the Milk Day in all our schools.

The pupils of Spojená škola didn't forget about this day and celebrated it by having a big milk event where they created 'Sabina the cow' from empty milk boxes that had already been used. Once the cow was standing on its feet, the students of Hotel Academy started to serve cacao and strawberry drinks to support the whole idea. This event was just another one in a row of those

organized by our school throughout school years. It is considered to be a good idea for the students to adopt the basics of healthy eating habits.

6. Project Help your school and protect the nature

Another way how we raise the awareness about living a healthy life is a project Help your school and protect the nature' where students collect aluminium lids used in Sabi milk products and thus learn how to separate waste.

7. The European Day of Parents and Schools

The project named with the title above is not unknown for our school at all since we have already taken part in it. Because of the fact that parents were enormously interested in spending some time with their children at school, we prepared the meeting on 30 November.
The activities included were various. In the morning, the pupils talked to the teachers about the EU.
The discussion was followed by creating posters and panels providing information about specific European countries.

The highlight of the day was definitely accepting new first-grade pupils as the right members of our school. The little ceremony looked like the real one where knights are given the 'Sir' title by a queen. The difference to our one was that there was a prince, a princess and the headmaster of our school instead of the queen. Once our newest friends were finished with 'the official part', they were given t-shirts with their photos and our school logos.

Then they confirmed that they would attempt to be the best students they can by saying 'I PROMISE' in the most loudly way they were capable of and they showed their parents a few thing of what they had learned in the previous three months.

In the meanwhile, the rest of the classes changed into little kingdoms with lots of competitions where younger pupils together with their parents made small groups which travelled from one kingdom to another. At the same time, older pupils, parents and teachers were competing in volleyball and badminton where the group of parents defeated the other ones.

This day proved that the doors of our school are open for all those who view education and upbringing as important parts of our lives.
